Grinding Wheel related ocular injuries (صدمات ناشی از پرتاب یا شکسته شدن صفحه فرز)

Methods:
|
To report epidemiologic aspects and ocular findings in grinding Wheel related ocular injuries.
|
Results:
|
All patients were male, with a mean age of 29 (15-49). There was no difference in the time of the trauma between morning and evening. All patients denied wearing a protective glasses during the trauma. In all injuries except one patient, the grinding wheel was broken. In 28 eyes (23 patients), the culprit grind wheel was among cheapest ones in the market. Eyelid injuries were present in 96% of cases (29 cases of 30). Open globe injuries were present in 73% of cases (19 cases from 30). Final visual outcome was no light perception in 36% of cases (eleven cases). The most frequent zone of ocular involvement was zone III in open globe injuries (84% or 16 cases of 19 open globe injuries.

Conclusion:
|
Grinding wheel related ocular injuries are one of the devastating ocular injuries in young adults, necessitating the use of protective measurements and better-quality devices.
