Purpose:
This study was performed to determine the recurrence and complications rate of pterygium surgery with conjunctival autograft technique by ophthalmology residents in Rassoul-Akram Hospital since 2011 and 2015.
Methods:
In this observational cross-sectional study, 74 consecutive patients with pterygium underwent conjunctival autograft technique by ophthalmology residents in Rasool-Akram Hospital since 2011 to 2015 were enrolled and recurrence and complications rate was determined in them.
Results:
Mean age of patients was 50.87 ± 13.35 ( range : 27-88 ) year. 46 ( 62.2%) men and 28 ( 37.8% ) women were evaluated. In this study, it was seen that 6 patients (8.1%) had recurrence without specific risk factor (P > 0.05). There were dehiscence in 8 ( 8.1% ), graft chemosis in 1 ( 1.4% ), and graft detachment in 1 ( 1.4% ) of cases.
Conclusion:
Finally, according to the obtained results, it may be concluded that recurrence and complications rate of pterygium surgery with conjunctival autograft technique by ophthalmology residents is comparable with other reports by experience surgeons.
