Purpose:
The purpose of this study was to compare keratometry measurements from the CASIA AS-OCT and the Javal Manual keratometer.
Methods:
Keratometry measurements in the flat (Kf) and steep (Ks) meridians were taken with the CASIA AS-OCT (CASIA SS-1000, Tomey, Nagoya, Japan) followed by Javal Manual keratometer (Javal Schiotz type; Haag-Streit AG, Koeniz, Switzerland) in myopic virgin eyes. The 95% limits of agreement (LOAs) were reported to evaluate the agreement between devices.
Results:
The mean K readings of the CASIA AS-OCT and Javal Manual keratometer were 44.55/44.40 diopter (D), 44.37/44.25 D, respectively. Correlation coefficients for the CASIA AS-OCT and Javal Manual keratometer in measuring flat K and steep K were r=0.914 and r=0.911, respectively (p<0.001). The 95% limits of agreement (LoA) the CASIA AS-OCT and Javal Manual keratometry was 1.01-1.12 D for flat K and 1.04-1.12 D for steep K.
Conclusion:
In our study, The CASIA AS-OCT CASIA AS-OCT provided reliable K measurements in clinical practice in comparison with Javal Manual keratometry and seem to be interchangeable. More studies are needed to investigate these issues in non-virgin eyes.
